Description: „Thérèse Schwarze was the daughter of the painter Johann Georg Schwarze (1814-1874) who was her first teacher. She went to Munich for a year to study under Gabriel Max and Franz von Lenbach. In 1879 she went to Paris where J.J. Henner became her teacher. In her days she was well known for her portraits and she painted several members of the royal family. She was even invited to contribute her portrait to the hall of painters at the Uffizi Museum in Florence. Het work can be found at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and at the Jewish Historical Museum in that city. In 1906 she married Anton van Duyl. He died on 22 Jul 1918 at a time that she was already in bad health. She didn’t overcome this blow and died herself on December 23, 1918 after she had suddenly became ill. She was buried at the Zorgvlied Cemetery in Amsterdam and her tomb shows herself lying on her grave. This scared visitors and after the cemetery rights weren’t extended she was reburied at the Nieuwe Oosterbegraafplaats, also in Amsterdam. Her sister Georgine was a sculptor and het nieces Lizzy Ansingh and Sorella Ansingh (the daughters of her sister Clara Theresia) were also a painters.“ | YouTube
